Though the big fight and the jump-rope competition end up being a day apart, Izzy's still pressured by friends and his dad in what is truly one of the best-written and best-acted DCOMs. In " Jump In," Izzy (Corbin Bleu) is forced to pick between boxing, like his dad, or competing in double dutch. And, of course, it's all mixed together with some boppin' musical moments. In "High School Musical," Troy ( Zac Efron) must choose between basketball (on a team that's also coached by his dad) and the callbacks for the school musical with his new love, Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens). In " Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-Off," the titular character (Taylor Ball) must choose between the baseball team his dad coaches and his newfound love for cooking when the league finals and a big cooking competition are scheduled on the same day. Nina and Chelsea celebrate one of their all-time favorite, DCOM's, Gotta Kick It Up From introducing us to America Ferrera to teaching us not to fear failur. All three also have great "it's not my dream, dad, it's yours" energy. One of the reasons I chose Gotta Kick It Up! as our first pick is because of all the DCOMs, it’s one of the few that I can distinctly remember being excited to watch. It follows the story of a group of middle school girls, who guilt the new teacher, who used to be a dancer, into coaching the school’s dance team. The film is written and directed by Ramón Menéndez, who also wrote the screenplay for the notable Latino drama, Tortilla Soup. It stars America Ferrera (before Ugly Betty), Camille Guaty ( who we interviewed recently!), and Susan Egan.
